Welcome, winter! Friday, December 22nd marks the first day of winter. Opinions are really divided on the preference of seasons between summer and winter, but for me, both have their charm. In general, I’m a spring girl! I like it when it’s sunny but not too hot. I enjoy beaches (they calm me) and the cheerful mood thanks to the sun. But, to be honest, I really like winter a lot too. A cup of hot cocoa in hand, big coats, beanies, and a walk in the park, even when it’s freezing but still sunny, is one of my favorite “me time” moments. And don’t get me started on the snow! My inner child is reviving!

I think the older I get, the comfier I want to be, and in winter, warmer too. I love fashion, shopping, and even window shopping; just looking at new arrivals makes me happy. However, I really prioritize being comfortable in day-to-day life! For me, it’s a must!

For example, I loved wearing heels every day in my younger days, but now, flats and sneakers are my way to go! So, yes to trends, but they need to fit my comfort first (and taste, but that’s obvious).

As winter just began, I would like to share, as a minimalist, my must-haves and trends for winter 2023. Only for you and me to be as stylish, comfy, and warm as possible!

Ready…?

To face winter, it’s important to have a good coat that keeps you warm while remaining stylish. Several coats are trending this winter, and my favorites are versatile styles that can go with different outfits.

Long Oversized Coat

While oversized long coats are popular choices for colder seasons due to their length and potential for layering, it is a very easy piece to match with various styles, whether you want to pair it with a dress or go for a more casual look with jeans and sweats, this type of coat won’t let you down. The slight oversized fit adds a modern touch, defining your outfit perfectly! Indeed, designers often incorporate oversized long coats into their collections, offering a contemporary and relaxed take on classic outerwear! Whether you prefer a classic wool coat or a modern interpretation in lighter fabrics, this style of coat offers a timeless and cozy wardrobe staple.

Puffer Jacket

I used to not like puffer jackets; I used to think they wouldn’t fit me very well until one day I found THE jacket. Whether long, mid, or short, in black or another color, you need to find the jacket that suits your body type. You can never go wrong with this jacket; it’s perfect when the weather is too windy or rainy. Again, it can be paired with different styles unless you’re going for a too classy vibe; in that case, I would opt for a coat like the one mentioned above!

This must be my favorite jacket for this winter. A leather jacket, slightly oversized, lined with shearling to provide extra warmth in the winter. The brown color, described as espresso brown, will add elegance and sophistication and undoubtedly elevate your outfit.

Quilted Shell Coat

The quilted shell coat, quite similar to puffy jackets, continues to trend in 2023. The term “quilted” refers to the stitching pattern on the coat’s exterior, involving sewing together multiple layers of fabric to create a padded or textured effect. In the context of a shell coat, the quilting is often done to add insulation and visual interest. Typically made from a lightweight, weather-resistant, and water-resistant shell fabric, this jacket provides warmth without the bulkiness associated with some heavier winter coats.

Coming in various styles and lengths, the quilted shell jacket is suitable for a variety of occasions, from casual outings to more formal events, depending on the specific design. This jacket is a popular choice among fashion lovers – including mine – and it offers a good balance between style and functionality, providing protection against the elements while maintaining a fashionable appearance.

Beanies

These accessories are a “must-have” in the winter. A beanie, typically made of soft fabric such as knit wool, is designed to fit snugly on the head, covering the forehead and ears. Beanies are known for their simple, close-fitting, and brimless design, often made of warm and stretchy materials like wool or acrylic, some may even have a fleece lining for added warmth. They are versatile and can be worn in various ways, making them a popular choice for casual and outdoor activities during colder weather.

Beanies are commonly associated with casual, relaxed styles, and they come in a variety of colors and designs, making them a popular accessory for both men and women. Additionally, beanies have become a staple in streetwear and urban fashion.

Hoods

Hoods, the accessories of my childhood, are making a big return this winter! I’m very excited, and in my opinion, they are very stylish. Hoods are designed to provide additional protection and warmth for the head and neck during cold weather. They come in various styles and materials, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. When selecting a hood, don’t forget to consider the jacket, the climate of your location, your lifestyle, and personal preferences for style and functionality.

Winter Scarves

Winter scarves are often made from warm and insulating materials such as wool, cashmere, acrylic, or fleece and they can impact the scarf’s warmth and texture. They come in different styles (rectangle, square, infinity, a loop that can be worn in a double loop around the neck, and triangle), lengths (which can influence how the scarf is worn and the level of protection it provides), and patterns and colors (classic, bold patterns, and colors, textured).

Similar to beanies and hoods, winter scarves are a functional accessory that helps keep you warm by providing an extra layer of insulation around the neck. When selecting a winter scarf, consider your personal style, the climate of your location, and the types of outfits you’ll be wearing. A well-chosen scarf can add a touch of style to your winter ensembles while keeping you cozy in colder temperatures.

The Color Red

I could be wrong, but I always feel that the items described above are basics, and every winter you cannot go wrong with puffy jackets, leather jackets, or beanies, and so on.

I really feel that it’s the fit of the outfit that changes in order to be trendy. Like, a few years back, I had a long black coat, but it was more fitted, whereas today the coat I own is more oversized.

However, what changes every winter and even every season is the color trend, either bold or neutral. Each season, each year has its color identity, and this year we could really see everywhere, through social media and fashion shows, the color red!

Already trending since fall, we could see shoes, bags, accessories, pants declined in different shades of red.
