  2. Why Shop for Skincare in Germany?

It was my first time visiting Düsseldorf and I absolutely loved it. The peaceful walks along the Rhine River and the city’s calm, refreshing atmosphere did me so much good.

Of course, I couldn’t leave without exploring a bit of skincare shopping. German products have a great reputation, but are they really worth the hype? I found some really interesting brands at much better prices than in Belgium, with some products costing literally half the price.

In total, I spent around €65. For example, Garnier sheet masks, which usually cost €4 in Belgium, were only €1.30 each in Düsseldorf.

This article isn’t about pushing you to buy anything. I simply want to share what I found and what caught my eye. Aside from the Garnier masks I already know and love, everything else is completely new to me. I picked products that I genuinely needed or was curious to try, without buying just for the sake of it.

I’ll be testing everything and will come back soon with honest reviews!

My Purchases and First Impressions

Full haul from Düsseldorf

Where Did I Shop?

I did most of my shopping at DM, a popular German drugstore chain, similar to Di in Belgium. As for the Korean sheet masks, I found them in an Asian supermarket in Düsseldorf, which was a real treasure trove, especially thanks to the city’s large Asian (mainly Japanese) community. It was the perfect opportunity to get my hands on products that are hard to find back home!

Sheet Masks: A Great Deal in Düsseldorf

Sheet masks bought during my Düsseldorf haul

I love sheet masks, not only for their skincare benefits but also for the pleasure they bring. It’s a true moment of relaxation, a little enjoyable break that always puts me in a good mood.

Garnier

Garnier is a well-known brand for affordable and effective skincare. They specialize in haircare and skincare and offer a wide range of products at budget-friendly prices. Their sheet masks are especially popular for a quick at-home treatment.

  • Vitamin C Radiance & Even Skin Tone
  • Hydra Bomb Intense Hydration

At €1.30 each in Düsseldorf, these were an amazing deal compared to their usual price of €4+ in Belgium. I couldn’t resist given the super attractive price, especially when you consider how much more expensive they are in Belgium.

(Quick update: I tried the Garnier Vitamin C sheet mask as well, and you can read my review of it here.)

MASK ON, Maison de Corée Paris

MASK ON is a Korean brand that offers a range of sheet masks designed to address different skin concerns.

  • Ginseng – Anti-aging Edition → A firming mask with anti-aging benefits.
  • Honey – Hydrating Edition → Provides deep hydration, perfect for dry skin.
  • Rice – Illuminating Edition → Brightens the complexion for a more even skin tone.

I’ve always been curious to try K-beauty products, especially since they’re not that common here, although it’s starting to change. By the way, I wrote an article on K-beauty, where I share where to find them and some products to try.

So when I saw these masks, with ingredients like ginseng and rice that I hadn’t seen here before, I just had to pick them up! It was the perfect opportunity to try out these products that seem really interesting.

The price was only €1.30 each!

Skincare Ampoules: Targeted Treatment with Instant Effects

Skincare ampoules from my Düsseldorf haul

I haven’t tested them yet, but I was curious to see if facial ampoules are really effective. I’ve never bought any before, mainly because they’re quite expensive here in Belgium, so I didn’t really feel the need to try them. But in Germany, the chance to find them at a much more affordable price allowed me to satisfy my curiosity. I’m excited to see if these ampoules can really make a difference to my skin and if they’re worth adding to my skincare routine.

Schaebens

Schaebens is a German skincare brand that offers affordable yet effective products. They focus on convenient treatments with visible results thanks to well-researched formulas.

  • Perfect Skin Glow Konzentrat
→ Infused with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E, this ampoule instantly blurs imperfections with a slight tint for a flawless skin effect.

Diadermine

Diadermine is a long-established brand known for its anti-aging skincare. Their ampoules are designed for targeted treatments with high concentrations of active ingredients. In Belgium, they cost around €5, but I got them for €2.95 in Düsseldorf, definitely worth it!

  • Lift+ SOFORT-EFFEKT Glow Kapseln
→ Contains 10% Vitamin C and Pro-Collagen to boost collagen production and give the skin a youthful glow.

Sunscreens: Finally Trying a Mineral Formula!

Sunscreens from my Düsseldorf haul

Hej Organic

Hej Organic is a vegan and organic German brand that focuses on natural ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. Their products are great for sensitive skin and balance effectiveness with sustainability.

  • Cactus The Protector SPF 30
→ A mineral sunscreen with mineral UV filters, designed to avoid the typical white cast of many mineral formulas. I was really excited to try this brand, and I can’t wait to see if this sunscreen lives up to my expectations!

I’ve been looking for the right mineral sunscreen, especially for my sensitive and acne-prone skin, since apparently, it’s the best option. Since I use it every day, it’s important that it doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin.

Even though many mineral sunscreens claim to be without white traces, there’s always a little bit, which is often disappointing. I’m quite picky with mineral sunscreens, as they tend to be thicker and more radiant, which I’m not a fan of. But still, I wanted to give this one a try to see if it could be a good option for my skin.

Sundance

Sundance is a German sunscreen brand, available exclusively at DM drugstores. They offer high-quality sun protection at very affordable prices.

  • SPF 50 Matt, Non-Comedogenic
→ A lightweight, mattifying formula that protects the skin from UV rays while controlling shine.

I chose this mattifying sunscreen because I’m a big fan of formulas that control shine. As I mentioned earlier, I can’t stand having shiny skin from sunscreen, and mattifying sunscreens are usually lighter. Plus, with such an affordable price of only €4, this sunscreen really caught my attention!

My favorite sunscreen is still the Oil Control from Eucerin, which you can find in my previous articles. I’ve recommended it to several people around me, and they all loved it without hesitation!

By the way, if you want to learn more about sun protection (SPF, PA, UV, etc.), I’ve written a detailed article on the topic. I also have an article titled Mineral vs. Chemical Sunscreen: Difference & My Preferences? where I explain the distinction between the two and share my favorite sunscreens. Additionally, I’ve done a full review of the SVR Blur Sunscreen with my personal opinion, feel free to check it out!

(Quick update: I tried them out, and you can read my review of both sunscreens here.)

Cleansers & Serums: For Healthy Skin

Serum and cleanser from my Düsseldorf haul

Balea

Balea is a German drugstore skincare brand sold mainly at DM. It’s loved for its affordable and effective products, with a range that caters to sensitive skin, anti-aging, and more.

  • Hautrein Serum (1% AHA + 0.5% BHA)
→ An exfoliating serum that helps fight blemishes and refine skin texture.

For the serum, having acne-prone skin, I was curious to try this product containing AHA and BHA. These ingredients are known for helping to treat blemishes and improve skin texture, so I decided to give it a try.

I was looking for a lighter treatment to target my breakouts, especially since, despite using tretinoin, I still get occasional pimples. I was curious to see if this serum could help reduce them. Given the affordable price, it was the perfect opportunity to test its effectiveness without breaking the bank.

Hej Organic

Since I already mentioned this brand, here’s another product I picked up:

  • Sensitive Cleansing Gel
→ A gentle facial cleanser that removes impurities without irritating the skin, perfect for sensitive skin types.

I bought a natural cleanser simply because I wanted to try something different. I’ve always used cleansers from brands like Eucerin, La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, SVR, etc., and I was curious to see what a “natural” cleanser could offer compared to these more conventional products I’m used to.

Hand & Lip Care: Hydration Must-Haves

Lip balms and hand creams from my Düsseldorf haul

BEE Natural

BEE Natural is a brand that focuses on natural ingredients, especially beeswax-based products.

  • Beeswax Coconut Vanilla Lip Balm
→ A natural lip balm with a delicious coconut-vanilla scent, perfect for keeping lips soft and hydrated.

As I mentioned in my previous post about lip care, I tend to gravitate toward lip balms with natural ingredients. It’s a bit psychological, but since I end up ingesting some of the product, I prefer to use balms with ingredients I feel are “safer” for my body. For example, I find it hard to use lip balms with SPF, even though I know it’s important. In fact, if I come across a lip balm with mineral sunscreen, I’d buy it right away because I know how crucial it is to protect your lips. (And when I do know I’ll be out in the sun, which is rare, I make sure to apply sunscreen on my lips, whether it’s mineral or not!)

Anyway, this balm is natural, and there was also a 1+1 free promotion, which is always a good deal. Plus, we always end up with at least one lip balm in every bag!

Balea

I couldn’t resist picking up two hand creams from Balea:

  • Urea Hand Cream (€1.23)
→ Hydrates and softens dry hands with urea, a powerful moisturizing ingredient.
  • Buttermilk & Lemon Hand Cream (€0.75)
→ I love the fresh citrus scent, and it feels amazing on the skin!

For hand creams, it’s always good to have some, especially since I use them both in winter and summer. They were really affordable, so I took the opportunity to grab a few. It’s the kind of product that’s always handy to keep in your bag or within reach!

Since then, I finally got to try these Balea hand creams, and they truly surprised me! I’ve written a full review with all the details, which you can read here.

Why Shop for Skincare in Germany?

  • Prices are often much cheaper than in Belgium.
  • Korean beauty products (especially in Düsseldorf) are much easier to find.
  • A wide variety of brands, including vegan and organic options like Hej Organic at affordable prices!

I’m so happy with my Düsseldorf skincare haul! Between the amazing deals (like Garnier and Skincare Haul in DüsseldorfDiadermine) and new brands to try (like Hej Organic and Schaebens), I managed to bring back some amazing finds at unbeatable prices. If you’re a skincare lover, Düsseldorf is definitely a great place to explore, especially if you want to discover brands that aren’t widely available in Belgium.

This article isn’t meant to promote buying, but rather to share my discoveries. Except for the Garnier masks, all of these products are new to me, so I’ll be testing them and sharing my honest review later.

Have you tried any of these brands? Or do you have other skincare shopping tips in Germany? Let me know in the comments!

See you soon, Beautifully Moi!
